The paw is placed upon a shield bearing the symbol of the French monarchy. On the reverse, also the inscriptions: "HELVETIORUM FIDEI AC VIRTUTI" - meaning "to the faith and virtues of the Swiss" and "LÖWENDENKMAL LUZERN" - the name of the coin.
